Purpose of Position

Be involved in financial insurance losses, including business interruption, stock, fidelity, product recall, product guarantee, by investigating claims through detailed analysis of accounting records, external sources & general enquiry. Assess quantum, negotiate losses with insured, brokers, and claims preparer. Conduct sales and marketing activities and presentations. Establish or promote market recognition of financial risks insurance claims. Provide analytical assistance and support to other team members.


To support the effective assessment and negotiation of claims in accordance with agreed claims settlement authority levels, policy coverage, Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and assess financial insurance Losses from first advice to settlement.
  • Provide support & advice to policy holders with respect to their losses.
  • Service current clients, build relationships and undertake marketing activities to grow client base.
  • Set loss reserves.
  • Prepare reports by collecting and summarising information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford & Company in line with Service Level Agreements.
  • Control claim costs.
  • Gather evidence and assist in preparation of expert witness reports for use in legal proceedings.
  • Maintain company reputation and insurance product integrity by complying with appropriate regulations and corporate quality standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Conduct business development by calling on local businesses to solicit new business or maintain existing business

Experience/Knowledge Required

  • Excellent organisational skills to manage a varied workload and competing demands.
  • Strong analytical and decision making ability in order to analyse information/ problems correctly and make sound judgements, timely decisions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general insurance and the legal knowledge loss adjusters need to possess and the key elements of a loss adjuster's terms of engagement and the steps involved in the loss adjusting process.
  • A minimum of two years as a Forensic Accountant.
  • Able to resolve less complicated insurance claims without supervision up to the value of $100,000.
  • Superior spreadsheet skills using MS Excel or similar.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting terminology, practices and conditions.
  • Good English and report writing skills.
  • Preferably marketing/business development experience.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.


  • Member of the Institute of Chartered or Certified Accountants.
  • Bachelor’s degree relating to accountancy and finance.
  • 2 years’ meaningful loss adjusting experience.
  • Driver's License
